Petition to support
the Cause for the Beatification of Venerable Catherine McAuley

    The National Commission is glad to say that the Petition requesting our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI to Beatify our Venerable Catherine McAuley has been handed over to Archbishop Vincent Nichols to pass on to the Pope during his visit to England, Scotland and Wales. We are grateful to all the Associate groups and Sisters who took the trouble to respond to the request for signatures, an account of favours received through the intercession of Catherine and ministries of the Associates and Sisters. All the material is professionally bound in three volumes.

    Volume 1 contains the 9,400 signatures and the letters of support from members of the Hierarchy.

    Volume 3 contains all the material submitted by our Youth Mercy Associates - their Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy, significant mercy events & others in which they have been involved and favours granted through the intercession of Venerable Catherine.

    We are confident that the Volumes of the Petition will eventually find their way to the Congregation for Causes in Rome. We are also confident that, when the time comes for the miracle required for Catherine's Beatification, this Petition will provide evidence of the great love and devotion that Mercy Associates, Sisters of Mercy, Youth Associates and Friends of Mercy in Great Britain have for Venerable Catherine.

    We are grateful to the members of our Hierarchy who provided their support for our Petition. They responded with enthusiasm and wonderful tributes were paid to the Mercy Ministries of the Sisters and Associates in many Dioceses of Great Britain.
