Lenten Prayers, Devotions & Reflections

"Mortify in me, dear Jesus, all that is displeasing to Thee,
and make me according to thine own heart's desire" -
a prayer of Catherine McAuley which sums up for us the purpose of Lent.

Lent is a time of preparation, mirroring the fast of Jesus in the desert
before He began his public ministry and his journey to Calvary, the Cross and Resurrection.

Below are links to a few Lenten prayers, devotions & reflections, which we hope will prove useful to Mercy Associates and other visitors to this site. Each week in Lent a new item, to do with the Sunday Gospel is added.

"The Jesus Psalter"
This devotion was a constant and beloved prayer of Catherine McAuley which she used from an early age.It consists of fifteen petitions seeking the mercy and compassion of God.
Each petition begins by calling on the name of Jesus ten times,
and hence a 150 times in all,
corresponding to the 150 biblical psalms.
It is not necessary to pray the fifteen petitions altogether.
You may divide them up anyway you wish.

Praying for the Sick
through the intercession of Catherine during Lent

The Committee looking after the Canonisation Process of Catherine McAuley have written a special series of meetings for Lent, which are designed to pray for the sick through the intercession of Catherine.
They are suitable for use by groups or individuals and we hope our Mercy Associate Groups will find them inspiring.
The pages are all downloadable

It goes without saying that there are many internet sites dealing with Lent. Putting something like "Catholic Lenten Devotions" into Google or other search engine will provide a rich harvest.
