On Thursday, September 1st. 2011, Thirty Mercy Associates from Blackbrook and Lowton, traveled together to our Lady's Shrine at Fernyhaugh near Preston. The weather was wonderfully fine. Arriving about 11.00 they were welcome with tea and coffee,
after which the gathered on the lawn by the Martyrs' Chapel, where Fr.Bernard told them the story of the Shrine and then led them in a Sprinkling Service with water from the Shrine's Well. The Service included a renewal of Baptismal Promises. After this, the Pilgrims went to the upstairs chapel in Ladyewell House for a prayerful Holy Hour.
A leisurely Lunch followed. The Pilgrims brought their own packed lunches, while tea and coffee were served by Sr. Anne and her helpers.
After lunch there was time to explore the shrine grounds, before gathering again on the lawn for the Rosary. Then back to the Chapel to celebrate Mass with Fr.Bernard which was offered for all the intentions of the Pilgrims.
Before departing, we were treated to yet another "comfortable cup of tea" and walked the half mile happily back to the coach, calling briefly into Our Lady's Parish Church on the way. And what a beautiful Church that is!
The Shrine has been extensively renewed and redecorated after the disastrous fire some months ago. It is open daily and is well worth a visit.
